14th Amendment
July 9th 1868
This amendment overruled the current status of a citizen as established by court case Dred scott vs Sandford, which had established that black people were not citizens. This did not, however, allow black people to vote, but it still granted them much more freedom than otherwise available. This amendment was the second of three reconstruction amendments.
