Black Codes
The black codes were a series of laws that the black americans were to abide by that limited the civil rights and freedoms of those that were of African descent and had American citizenship. These codes were passed to help regulate the labor and other activities of newly freed slaves. This is in direct opposition to the Constitution, which declared “all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, that among theses are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
