Clara Barton
Clara Barton was one of the few woman during the time that worked outside of the home. She had founded the American Red Cross, aiding people falling victim of natural disasters and war. She was also known as the “Angel of the Battlefield,” because of her medical ability. She was appointed by Benjamin Butler as the head nurse at the hospitals at the Army of the James. Throughout her time, she became the superintendent of the Union nurses on the battlefield, receiving supplies for the hospitals on the battlefield.
