Robert E. Lee
Robert E. Lee was a very conspicuous leader for the south, but he was a very good one. He launched a counterattack on McClellan when McClellan was stuck at a stand still in the city of Richmond. He also participated in the battle of Bull Run, Aug. 29-30, 1862. When Lee felt he was advancing, he was soon halted by McClellan at the battle of Antietam on Sept. 17, 1862, known as the bloodiest battle in United States history. Lee also won at Burnside’s Slaughter Pen, then advancing thru Pennsylvania to get to the Union north.
