Daniel Webster
Daniel Webster was a American statesman and senator from Massachusetts during the time leading up to the Civil War. Webster wanted to see the Union preserved and the Civil War averted. He worked on compromises to keep the war at bay and also tried and failed to become president three times and was eventually selected as one of the five greatest U.S. senators.
"The people's government, made for the people, made by the people, and answerable to the people."
