Jefferson Davis
Jefferson Davis was known for his role as the president of the Confederate States of America during the American Civil War. Davis took charge of the Confederate war plans, but he couldn’t match the Union’s giant army and natural resources and industry. In the later years of his six year term, the economy collapsed and eventually, so did the Confederate States of America. After the war he retired and became an insurance agent.
“I worked night and a day for twelve years to prevent the war, but I could not. The North was mad and blind, would not let us govern ourselves, and so the war came.”
