Ulysses S. Grant
Ulysses S. Grant was by all means, a failure. He finished last in his class at West Point, had a terrible drinking problem, and did not have a great work ethic. But he had one thing all the other Union generals lacked, balls of steel. Grant was not afraid to take casualties. He understood that if the Union lost two men for every one of Confederates, they would win the war easily. Due to his ability to lose men, he was named the most successful Union general, and eventually, a poor president.
“The art of war is simple enough. Find out where your enemy is. Get at him as soon as you can. Strike him as hard as you can, and keep moving on.”
