John Wilkes Booth
John Wilkes Booth, before his claim to fame, was an American stage actor and Broadway performer. Booth, on April 14, 1865, made plans to assassinate the president, along with the two successors of his command, the Secretary of State William H. Seward, and the vice president Andrew Johnson. Booths intentions showed his willingness to cripple the Union in their efforts to restore the union. Booth succeeded in killing Lincoln but was unsuccessful in killing Seward and Johnson.
