Andersonville Prison

Otherwise known as Fort Sumter, held more prisoners at any given time than all other Confederate prisons at the time. Many Union soldiers were held here, and many passed for a variety of reasons: malnutrition, exposure to the elements, overcrowded, or disease. More than 45,000 Union soldiers were there at one time, and 13,000 perished during the extent of its 14 month existence.
